THE WINES FROM THE TEDESCHI BROTHERS WINERY SELECTED BY “DECANTER”
AS ONE OF THE 100 BEST WINES IN THE WORLD AND IS INVITED TO PARTICIPATE
IN THE “FINE WINE ENCOUNTER”
There is perhaps no greater international recognition for the achievements
of a wine business than to be invited by “Decanter” to participate
in the “Fine Wine Encounter”, the only British trade fair
reserved for elite wines and organized by the famous English magazine
itself. In fact, only 100 wineries worldwide are selected, sixteen of
which are Italian. Other countries represented are: Argentina, Australia,
Canada, Chile, France, Germany, Greece, Lebanon, New Zealand, Portugal,
Spain, South Africa, and the United States.
The family run business Tedeschi Brothers of Pedemonte is the only winery
that has been chosen from the Valpolicella region. Their inclusion will
make it possible for wine lovers to taste the Amarone Monte Olmi 2001,
which has just received the highest accolades even from the most highly
respected Italian wine guides.
WINE IRELAND
GENTLEMEN OF VERONA
…The approach here is most definitely hands on, with Renzo Tedeschi
overseeing everything, right down to doing regular stints on the bottling
line….Tedeschi Amarone 1999 has the requisite flavor profile
of dark and bitter cherry, sweet liquorice and soft plum all underpinned
by edgy tannins and firm acidity. Amarone Monte Olmi 1999 has a dense
cherry palate and, again, well balanced tannin and acidity.
VALPOLICELLA’S TREASURES MODERN YET DISTINCTLY ITALIAN
Tedeschi, an estate in contrast that dates to the early 19th century,
utilizes the almost-forgotten relative of Corvina, corvinone, in its regular
Amarone (the Amarone Capitel Monte Olmi is a true reference wine)
Tedeschi, 1999 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico
Capitel Monte Olmi: big, spicy, warm aromas of smoky black cherry
and bread dough are beautifully integrated. Flavors of black cherry, olive
and cedar are in between the extracted and lean style; zesty red cherry
in the close. Score 94/100
Tedeschi, 2000 Recioto della Valpolicella Classico
Capitel Monte Fontana: warm scents of black plum, graphite and bread
dough. Soft, balanced, sweet flavors of black fruit, minerals, black pepper
and sugared coffee. Score 93/100
Tedeschi Verona La Fabriseria 2001 Score: 87
Points
Country: Italy
Region: Veneto
Issue: Nov 15, 2004
Aromas of black fruit and minerals follow through to a medium-bodied
palate, with a solid core of fruit. Firm and chewy tannins, with a rich,
decadent finish. Should mellow with some bottle age. Needs rich food.
Best after 2005. 1,840 cases made. (JS)
Tedeschi Verona Capitel San Rocco 2001 Score:
86 Points
Country: Italy
Region: Veneto
Issue: Nov 15, 2004
Interesting nose, with currants and roast lamb and rosemary. Medium-bodied,
with medium jammy fruit character and a decadent finish. Needs rich food.
Stew please. Typical Veneto red. Best after 2004. 4,200 cases made. (JS)
